On February 12, UT Health Science Center College of Pharmacy’s American Pharmacists Association- Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) organized a fundraiser for the Melinda Rhea Garrett Scholarship Fund during a Lady Vols Basketball game. The chapter bought tickets for the game and resold them at a fee to students and faculty, with the proceeds going towards the scholarship fund.

In 2006, Members of the Academy of Student Pharmacists at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy established the Melinda Rhea Garrett Scholarship Endowment to honor a fellow P1 student, Melinda, who passed away suddenly on March 28, 2006, at the age of 23. The scholarship is awarded to current students at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy who are members of the UT College of Pharmacy Academy of Student Pharmacists Chapter and have demonstrated exceptional leadership and service to the chapter.
Melinda’s beautiful smile, genuine laugh, and sense of humor are preserved in her fellow students’ hearts and thoughts, and her name is perpetuated at the UTHSC College of Pharmacy through the establishment of this scholarship in her name. In 2009, Melinda’s Doctor of Pharmacy degree was posthumously awarded to her family.
As a state-supported university, UTHSC remains the most affordable college of pharmacy in Tennessee. Combined with our national recognition as a leader in pharmacy education, UTHSC continues to be the best value both statewide and regionally.
