The UTHSC College of Pharmacy students and faculty recently presented their research posters at the American College of Clinical Pharmacy meeting in Dallas, TX from November 11-14. Our students and faculty are committed to improving healthcare both in Tennessee and beyond, and we take great pride in their exceptional quality, dedication, and talent. Their hard work and contributions are a testament to the high standards of our institution and the impact we strive to make in the field of pharmacy.

Madeline Armstrong (P4) presented a poster titled “Use of Prasugrel Post-Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) in a Patient with a History of Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA): A Case Report” which evaluated the use of prasugrel in a 76-year-old veteran who had a history of TIA; co-authors were Ally E. Ponder, PharmD, MPH; Robert B. Parker, PharmD, FCCP; Georges Ephrem, MD, and Kelly C. Rogers, PharmD, FCCP, FACC, BCCP.

Diego Benavides, Pharm D. candidate, presented a poster entitled “Real World Observations of Using Compounded GLP-1 Agonists within a Clinical Pharmacist-Managed Cardiometabolic Clinic,” which evaluates the safety and efficacy of compounded GLP-1 agonists semaglutide and tirzepatide within a clinical pharmacist-managed cardiometabolic clinic. Thaddeus McGiness, PharmD, BCPS (assistant professor, UTHSC College of Pharmacy) presents his research poster The Development of Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker-Associated Angioedema in a Patent with History of Angiotensin-converting Enzyme Inhibitors Associated Angioedema.
In their case report, researchers found that ARBs can cause angioedema in patients with history of ACE-inhibitor induced angioedema, regardless of the timeline of starting the ARB or if titrating the dose. The poster was awarded the “Top Case Report” from the ACCP Adult Medicine PRN.

Julie E. Farrar, PharmD, BCCCP (assistant professor, UTHSC Pharmacy) presents her research poster Accuracy of Predictive Equations in Estimating Measured Creatinine Clearance for Patients with Adequate Kidney Function Following Traumatic Injury.
