Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly growing and affecting many professions, including pharmacy. To help demystify this topic, the UTHSC COP annual Feurt Symposium was held on October 18th on the College’s Memphis Campus with a live webcast broadcast in Nashville and Knoxville—the symposium aimed to explore the power and potential of artificial intelligence in pharmacy. The symposium was organized to help pharmacy professionals understand artificial intelligence’s ability, potential, and limitations and its impact on the pharmacy profession.

The speakers, Christy Cheung, PharmD, and Whitley Li, PharmD, BCPS, co-founders of AI Collective, provided insights on how pharmacists can become active leaders in shaping the future of AI in healthcare.
“I was inspired by the insightful presentation given by Drs. Cheung and Li. Their thoughts on the future of pharmacy practice and AI were truly enlightening,” said Dean Reginald Frye.
Artificial intelligence has the potential to help pharmacists in several ways, such as maintaining medical records, designing treatment plans, and improving the accuracy of medication. Technology evolves quickly, and pharmacists should know of AI’s opportunities and challenges.
About the Feurt Symposium
An annual tradition at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, the Feurt symposium is sponsored by the Seldon D. Feurt Endowment, which celebrates previous dean, Dr. Seldon Feurt. In cooperation with the University, members of the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy and Tennessee Pharmacists Association started the Seldon D. Feurt Memorial Fund to honor Dr. Feurt and provide funding for scholarships, fellowships, research grants, and other needs of the College.
