Welcome New Faculty

The College is thrilled to welcome the following new faculty to our team:  

Dr. Thaddeus McGiness joins the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science as an Assistant Professor. Dr. McGiness completed his PharmD at the UTHSC College of Pharmacy. Following graduation, he completed a 24-month pharmacotherapy residency at the University of Tennessee with the University of Tennessee Medical Center. 

Before joining the faculty, he served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy at Saint Joseph’s University. His responsibilities there included maintaining an internal medicine clinical practice site at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, teaching within the pharmacy and physician assistant programs, conducting scholarly activities, and mentoring students. 

Dr. McGiness is on our Knoxville campus and will maintain a practice site in acute care/family medicine at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. 

Dr. Katherine March joins the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science as an Assistant Professor and Director of Skills-Based Education. March is a 2015 graduate of the College and has completed two years of postgraduate training specializing in Internal Medicine. She has a breadth of experience working in ambulatory care, internal medicine, vascular neurology, and post-stroke transitions of care. Her areas of interest include academia, acute stroke, and hypertension pharmacotherapy.  

In addition to her clinical practice, she served as an educational preceptor for third- and fourth-year pharmacy students and PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents. Dr. March has published several manuscripts in various well-recognized pharmacy and medical journals and has been an invited speaker at several local medical and pharmacy conferences. In her spare time, she enjoys being a dog-mom to two sweet goldendoodles, golfing, strength training, and spending time with her family. 

Dr. Joel Marrs joins the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science as a professor and Coordinator of Clinical Outreach. Marrs earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Butler University and his Master of Public Health focused on Epidemiology from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Colorado School of Public Health. Following completion of his PharmD degree, Dr. Marrs completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio and a PGY2 Ambulatory Care/Family Medicine Residency at the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy.  

Prior to joining the UTHSC COP, Dr. Marrs has served on served on the faculty at University of Colorado School of Medicine, the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the Oregon State University/Oregon Health Science University College of Pharmacy. He has extensive clinical pharmacy practice experience in ambulatory care, with a focus on cardiology & cardiometabolic disease. His research interests are focused on the prevention and management of endocrine and cardiovascular disease and patient centered outcomes research.
