Dr. Rick Sain appointed as Alumni Board President

|

Rick Sain, Pharm.D., has been tapped to serve as president of the UTHSC College of Pharmacy Alumni Board.

Dr. Sain is well known throughout the pharmacy industry as an innovative pharmacist who maintains the delicate balance between pharmacy traditions, service and cutting-edge pharmaceutical technology.  His success and the success of the business he has built for the past 30 years is based on his passion for pharmacy and high standards of genuine compassion for people and their health care.

Sain grew up on a farm in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, learning fundamental principles of a strong work ethic based on daily tasks from sunrise to sunset, as well as an innate sense of pride from “reaping what you sow.” He attended Shelbyville Central High School and Middle Tennessee State University before entering pharmacy school at the UTHSC College of Pharmacy in Memphis, Tennessee.  He obtained his PharmD degree in 1989 and immediately joined the small pharmacy, Reeves-Powell in Murfreesboro. He later partnered with Shane Reeves as co-owner of Reeves-Sain.  Rick and his wife, Amy, have made Murfreesboro their home since 1990 and have two sons: Alec, a 2019 grad of the UTHSC College of Pharmacy, and Ky, who is 20 years old.

Sain’s impressive career exemplifies his drive and influence. Most recently, he was honored with the Tennessee Pharmacists Association 2018 Barbara McAndrew Herald Award and the Nashville Business Journal’s 2016 Health Care hero award in the Entrepreneur category. In 2011, he was named the Rutherford County Business Person of the Year. He has also received numerous awards in pharmacy throughout the State of Tennessee, including Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the Year early in his career, Rutherford County Pharmacist of the Year, and is a past President of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association.  “My service to the TPA, to the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy Alumni board, and to the UT Foundation Board of Directors, have all helped me stay aware of current issues facing pharmacy today,” said Sain.

He continues to serve on many community boards and supports many philanthropies throughout Middle Tennessee, including the Community Foundation of Rutherford County and the Discovery Center of Murfreesboro. Rick is also a member of the Fellowship United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, where he serves as Past-Chair of the Stewardship committee.
