College hosts virtual interprofessional activity

|

The College of Pharmacy led a 400-person virtual interprofessional education event November 4 that included students and faculty from the UTHSC Colleges of Pharmacy, Medicine, UTHSC Physician Assistant Program, and the University of Memphis School of Social Work.

The interactive activity was conducted via Zoom in small interdisciplinary groups of 10-12 students and applied videos, puzzles, and discussions around the social determinants of health to management of a complex patient. Third-year student pharmacists Kristin Blagg, Kate Noonan, Kajol Patel, and Ali Randolph helped develop the event and make what had previously been an in-person event completely virtual, as teaching assistants in the IPECS III course.

“They spent countless hours reimagining and transforming a case for an interactive virtual format,” said Dr. Tyler Kiles, assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science and one of the faculty members who directed the program. “We are proud of the ingenuity they showed and the hard work they put in to making the activity valuable and enjoyable for students.”

All colleges involved have signed up to re-conduct the activity in years to come.
