Students learn about pharmacy during MPLOY visit

|

Students from the Shelby County Schools (SCS) MPLOY program learned about career paths in pharmacy and health care on a visit to the College of Pharmacy July 3.

The MPLOY program is a locally funded initiative that provides Memphis youth opportunities to explore career paths based on their strengths and interests. Eight students from the program toured the College of Pharmacy campus, learned about admission into pharmacy school, talked one on one with Dean Marie Chisholm-Burns, and even performed simple compounding in the pharmacy lab.

Andreece Gandy, College of Pharmacy alumnus and Pharmacy Operations Manager at Baptist Memorial Health Care, oversaw the MPLOY visit.

“This summer, UTHSC was kind enough to open its doors to the 2019 students,” Gandy said. “The students left well informed and full of optimism about careers in pharmacy. SCS in conjunction with PPS (Professional Pharmacy Services) are incredibly grateful for the time the college took out to give back to young future pharmacists in the Shelby County community.”
