UT College of Pharmacy students made a splash in the Tennessee community. It began at UT Day on the Hill where students from across the University of Tennessee system were on hand to represent their work and schools. Pharmacy students set up a booth to promote UTHSC College of Pharmacy and share their educational experiences with the legislatures at the hill. In addition, several students had the opportunity to meet with Tennessee state legislatures, including Representative John Deberry and UTHSC College of Pharmacy alum Lieutenant Governor Rand McNally.

The College of Pharmacy was also represented at Graduation Education Week in Tennessee. Sabina Rajit was selected to represent the College as she presented her poster, “Smoking-mediated HIV Pathogenesis: Role of Cytochrome P450 and Oxidative Stress Pathways.” Working with Dr. Santosh Kumar, her research studied how cigarette smoke constituents enhance HIV-replication on monocytes and macrophages, which are the major target cells and reservoir for HIV virus.
