Dr. Meibohm Receives ACCP Mentorship Award

|

Bernd Meibohm, PhD, FCP, FAAPS, Interim Chair in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences  and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs, has been awarded the 2017 BMS Mentorship in Clinical Pharmacology award from the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP). This competitive award is given annually to an individual who demonstrates exemplary promotion of clinical pharmacology, with emphasis on the guidance of junior scientists, and is one of four major awards given out each year. ACCP President, John van den Anker, will present Dr. Meibohm with this award at the 2017 ACCP Annual Meeting in San Diego this fall.

Meibohm was nominated by a group of trainees and graduate students he has mentored.  He is the first College of Pharmacy faculty member to receive the award and was “pleasantly surprised” when he received notification that he won. No stranger to recognition for his mentoring effort, Meibohm was named an Outstanding Mentor Academy Inductee by the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2014.

“It’s extremely rewarding, in academia, to give a little guidance to students and then watch them get better and greater in their path,” Meibohm said when asked about his mentoring. “The College of Pharmacy is a great training environment where we want them to succeed. It’s a culture here that’s not limited to my lab.”
