Government Advanced Practice Experiences 2015-2016

|

The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy began offering government advanced practice experiences for the first time in 2005, and the program has since expanded to include more sites. Student pharmacists had the opportunity to participate in one of several different government rotations across the United States. Student pharmacists learn about government-based pharmacy practice and the culture of the patients they serve while providing patient care. Experiences are with the Indian Health Service (IHS) in Arizona, Wyoming and New Mexico; the United States Air Force in Alaska and the United States Army in Kentucky. New sites at Chinle Indian Hospital in Chinle, Arizona and Winslow Indian Health Center in Winslow, Arizona are in progress.

“The IHS rotation was one of my favorites! It was a perfect blend of adventure and learning that was affordable. I didn’t know about all of the vast opportunities for pharmacists with IHS prior to my rotation but they’re highly conducive to those hoping to practice in the ambulatory setting or in hospitals. The preceptor and staff were so welcoming and were great teachers on the Fort Washakie location and if I had to do it again, I would in a heartbeat!” – Ali Andreaco
