Gregory Phelps, a Class of 2019 student pharmacist, was selected as the 2016 recipient of the $6,000 University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy PharmD/PhD Scholarship. Phelps is under the advisement of Dr. Richard Lee at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the Department of Chemical Biology and Therapeutics. His research is focused around the study of drug resistant bacterial pathogens, such as MRSA and M. tuberculosis, and the search for new potential drug targets. Greg expressed his gratitude saying, “one of the main reasons I chose to come to UTHSC for pharmacy school was because of this program and the graduate opportunities this school offers. I’m truly honored and blessed to be recognized as this year’s recipient of the College of Pharmacy PharmD/PhD Scholarship. I would really like to thank the graduate committee and Dean Chisholm-Burns for this scholarship. I would also like to express gratitude to Dr. Richard Lee for his guidance and support through this past year.”
