Congratulations to two of our third year student pharmacists, Luella Jones and Jennifer Miller, for being accepted and assigned to national-headquarter advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs).
Luella Jones (pictured above left) will be traveling to Virginia in July for her APPE at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS). She will be able to see the day-to-day operations of a national pharmacy association firsthand. Luella is the first UT student to secure an APPE at this national office. The NACDS APPE will give her the opportunity to develop written and verbal communication skills, participate in events which promote the profession of pharmacy, and enhance pharmacy’s role in new and innovative patient-centered care models. After graduating from UT, she plans to pursue a fellowship with the NACDS with a focus in association management.
Jennifer Miller (pictured above right), will complete an APPE in Maryland with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in March 2017. This is the third consecutive year a UT student has applied for and been assigned an APPE with the FDA. This APPE is designed to familiarize students with the role of the FDA in drug development and to review marketing and post-marketing phases. Jennifer will also be trained to better utilize FDA drug information resources, respond to drug information inquires, and become more familiar with the laws and regulations associated with pharmacotherapy.
Luella and Jennifer will both represent UT well during completion of the experiential learning at these sites.
