Jessica Walker, second year student pharmacist on the Knoxville campus, recently was interviewed by Kim Hansard, local radio personality from Star 102.1, about Generation Rx’s mission to decrease prescription drug abuse in Tennessee. Walker’s involvement in the project began in 2014 at the APhA-ASP Mid-year Regional Meeting where she had the opportunity to meet with other student pharmacists about this important initiative. As the Knoxville chair for Generation Rx, Jessica has contacted several local media outlets, including newspapers and magazines. Walker commented on her efforts, “With the help of Mrs. Kim Hansard from STAR 102.1, we now have the capability to put out multiple interviews over the radio on the subject of prescription drug abuse prevention. Additionally, the SCRIPPS network radio stations span over most of the East Tennessee area, so our message has the potential to reach those who live in the highly rural areas surrounding us. Hopefully, the message will reach someone who needs it most, and who knows, maybe it’ll help save someone’s life.”
