Chisholm-Burns Receives AACP Dawson Award

|

MCB Pat Chase Dawson 2015 CropThe American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) selected Dean Marie Chisholm-Burns, PharmD, MPH, MBA, FCCP, FASHP, as this year’s recipient of the Paul R. Dawson Award. She received this award during July’s  AACP annual meeting in National Harbor, MD. The Paul R. Dawson award is gifted by Amgen each year in honor of their former Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Paul R. Dawson, who was a strong supporter of education in biotechnology. This award previously has been focused on biotechnology; however, beginning in 2015 the criteria were expanded to include any research that made substantial improvements in the quality of patient outcomes. The award’s intent is to recognize an active pharmacy educator as a leader in research related to health care services that affect patient outcomes, including clinical, translational and health services research. This award recognized Dean Chisholm-Burns’ outstanding contributions to teaching and research that have led to a positive impact on the quality of patient outcomes.

Dean Chisholm-Burns has received multiple national awards, such as the Nicholas Andrew Cummings Award from the National Academies of Practice, the Robert K. Chalmers Distinguished Pharmacy Educator Award from AACP, the Daniel B. Smith Practice Excellence Award from the American Pharmacists Association, and the Award of Excellence from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). More recently, at the 2014 ASHP Mid-year Clinical Meeting in Anaheim, CA she received the ASHP Research and Education Foundation’s Pharmacy Practice Research Award for her extensive work in the field of transplantation. She also received the Pharmacy Practice Research Award in 2011 and received national attention for her work demonstrating the value of pharmacist-provided patient care.
