P3 Pinning Ceremony

PinningThe University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy celebrated the sixth annual P3 pinning Ceremony on October 27th, 2014 at the Lindenwood Christian Church in Memphis. This event marked the culmination of student pharmacists’ didactic coursework and their transition to the advanced practice experience portion of the curriculum. Each student received a college of pharmacy lapel pin presented by Dr. James Eoff and Dr. Aubrey Waddell. Dr. Lindsey Wells, former PSGA President from 2011-2012 and graduate of the UTHSC College of Pharmacy Class of 2013, delivered the faculty charge.

Several student pharmacists were honored for outstanding academic and professional achievements by both faculty and peers.

Community Service Award
The student pharmacists of the class of 2016 voted on their classmates who have demonstrated outstanding community service. The recipients were Cathlyn Chan, Alicia Sanchez, and Uyen Le. Each recipient received a blue gemstone world globe on a wooden base with an engraved plate presented by Dean Chisholm-Burns.

 

 

 

Professionalism

 

Professionalism Award
The student pharmacists of the class of 2016 voted on their classmates who exemplify the most professional student pharmacist. The recipients were Lauren Bode, Jeremiah Glass, Ashley Kwasigroh, and Brandon Ladd. Each recipient received a framed replica of the 1939 cover of The Saturday Evening Post of Norman Rockwell’s “The Pharmacist” presented by Dean Chisholm-Burns.

 

 

Leadership-Pinning

 

 Leadership Award
The final student selected awards were given for outstanding leadership. Each recipient received a marble mortar and pestle on an engraved wooden base presented by Dean Chisholm-Burns. This year’s recipients were Dina Ali, Samantha Lewis, Torrey Smith, and Trey Smith.

 

 

 

Bonfini Pinning

 

 

Medicinal Chemistry Award
This award is presented to the student pharmacist who has achieved one of the highest scholastic averages in the Medicinal Chemistry course series. The recipient was Rachel Bonfini. She received an engraved plaque with the College of Pharmacy Seal presented by Dean Chisholm-Burns and Dr. Duane Miller, Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

 

 

 

 

Atul-Pinning

 

Atul Shukla Excellence in Pharmaceutics Award
This award is presented in memory of Dr. Atul Shukla who was a faculty member at UTCOP for nearly 20 years. The recipient of this award is a student who has achieved a high scholastic average in courses offered in the pharmaceutics course series. The recipient was Ashley Kwasigroh. Ashley received a marble desktop award inscribed “Presented for outstanding performance in pharmaceutics” presented by Dean Chisholm-Burns.

 

 

 

 

Donnelly Pinning

 

 

Excellence in Pharmacogenomics Award
This award is presented to a student who has demonstrated outstanding academic performance in the pharmacogenomics course. The recipient was Hannah Donnelly. Dean Chisholm Burns presented Hannah with an engraved plaque with the College of Pharmacy Seal.

 

 

 

Rodman Pinning

 

 

John H. Rodman Excellence in Pharmacokinetics Award
This award is presented in memory of Dr. John Rodman who was one of the country’s premier experts and most influential leaders in the area of clinical drug research. The recipient is a student who has demonstrated outstanding academic performance in the pharmacokinetics courses. The student received a marble desktop award that contains the College seal presented by Dean Chisholm Burns and Dr. Casey Laizure, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy. This year’s recipient was Elizabeth Royal.

 

 

Jessica Smith Pinning

 

 

Excellence in Pharmacy Administration Award
This award is presented to the student pharmacist with the highest scholastic average in all pharmacy administration courses. The recipient was Jessica Smith. Jessica received an engraved plaque with the College of Pharmacy Seal presented by Dean Chisholm Burns and Dr. David Solomon

 

 

 

Manis Pinning

 

 

Excellence in Non-Prescription Medication Award
This award is presented to the student with one of the highest grade point averages in the non-prescription drugs and self-care course. This year’s recipient was Melanie Manis. Dr. Rich Helms, Chair of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, and Dean Chisholm Burns presented Melanie with a figurine of a pharmacist compounding a prescription under the watchful eye of the UT mascot, Smokey.

 

 

 

Bode Pinning

 

Excellence in Communication and Clinical Skills Award
This award is granted to the student who has demonstrated scholastic achievements and practice excellence in the skill of patient examination, assessment, and communication. During the Basic Clinical Skills and Patient Assessment and Applied Therapeutics courses, the student demonstrated excellent communication and problem solving. This year’s recipient was Lauren Bode. Dr. Rich Helms, Chair of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, and Dean Chisholm Burns presented Lauren with a figurine of a pharmacist compounding a prescription under the watchful eye of the UT mascot, Smokey.

 

 

Punke Pinning

 

 

Excellence in Therapeutics Award
This award is presented to the student pharmacist who demonstrated academic excellence in the first 5 parts of the Therapeutics course series. The recipient was Alexandra Punke. Dr. Rich Helms, Chair of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, and Dean Chisholm Burns presented her with a Normal Rockwell figurine on behalf of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy.
