On October 30th, Memphis News station WREG aired a story titled “Rx Problems: Pharmacy Gives Firefighter Adderall Instead of Mobic.” WREG interviewed College of Pharmacy Associate Professor Amanda Howard-Thompson about the keys to preventing medication errors. Dr. Howard-Thompson emphasized the importance of communication: “All new prescriptions, brand new prescriptions, you’ve never had this drug before, a pharmacist is supposed to be counseling you on that, that’s law. The growth of electronic prescribing will cut down on errors, what’s most important us is face-to-face interaction between patients and pharmacists.” The full article can be accessed at http://wreg.com/2014/10/30/rx-for-problems-pharmacy-gives-firefighter-adderall-instead-of-mobic/
