University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy PGY2 Pharmacotherapy resident Thaddeus McGiness was selected as one of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Walmart Scholars. Dr. McGiness is pictured with his faculty mentor, Andrea Franks, PharmD. Walmart Scholars are chosen for their desire and commitment to a career in academic pharmacy. Both the student and the faculty mentor must submit a letter to AACP, and the student must submit an essay regarding academic pharmacy. Eighty-five students from across the nation were selected to receive this honor in 2014. The $1,000 scholarship covers 100% of the students cost to register for 2014 AACP Annual Meeting and Teachers Seminar.
When asked about his selection as a Walmart Scholar, Thad states that it was a true honor. He feels the educational sessions and networking opportunities provided have encouraged and reinforced his desire to pursue a career in academic pharmacy.
Thad McGiness graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in 2013 and is now completing his PGY2 Pharmacotherapy residency at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
