12th Annual Race for the Summitt Celebrates Pat Summitt’s Legacy and Raises Funds for Alzheimer’s Research

|

The 12th Annual Race for the Summitt 5K, organized by dedicated pharmacy students of the UTHSC American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) chapter to honor the legendary LadyVols coach, Pat Summitt. From 1974 to 2012, Coach Summitt led the Lady Vols with over 1,000 wins and an unwavering commitment to excellence, never experiencing a losing season.

Sadly, she lost her fight against the disease in 2016, and her legacy lives on through the Pat Summitt Foundation, supporting vital research and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.

This year’s race took place at the picturesque UT Research Park along the Knoxville Greenway on October 4th, thanks to the hard work of our awesome volunteers—P3 students Ethan Hathcock, Faith Burnham, Austin Cooper, Anika Thacker, Ava Mosedegh, Ben Snipes, Micheal Martin, Abigail Bryant, Sarah Fitzsimmons, Macy Laurent, Emma Smoker; and P2 students Mary Grace Mcauley, Jacob Allen, Julianne Horst, and Anna Bornhoeft.

Thanks to your support and our wonderful race participants, the event raised over $6,000, with final donations reaching approximately $6,400, all benefiting the Pat Summitt Foundation. Your participation helps continue Coach Summitt’s legacy by advancing Alzheimer’s research and awareness.
