On November 1, the UT Health Science Center held its annual employee CPR and AED training session, with 80 employees participating to earn their CPR certification!

The two sessions were led by Kelly Rogers, Pharm.D., a professor at the UT Health Science Center College of Pharmacy and the Campus AED Program Coordinator, along with assistance from some of our dedicated Pharm.D. students.

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of death in the U.S. and often occurs at home, witnessed by a loved one. Unfortunately, less than 15% of victims survive, and only 41% receive bystander CPR, which if provided correctly can double their chances of survival. The most effective treatment for SCA includes high-quality CPR with chest compressions, followed by an electric shock from an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The Campus AED Program at UT Health Science Center is dedicated to training every employee in AED use and effective CPR. AEDs are strategically located in buildings and police cars throughout the campus.
Congratulations to all UT Health Science Center employees who participated for taking a significant step toward saving lives!
