Graduate Student Nelufar Yasman Receives Best Podium Presentation and Outstanding Student Awards at Graduate Research Day

|

Congratulations to Nelufar Yasmen, a graduate student in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, for winning first place in the podium presentation and the Outstanding Student Award in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Graduate Student Executive Committee’s Graduate Research Day on May 31!

Under the guidance of Dr. Jianxiong Jiang, Yasmen conducted research on Siglec-E, an immunosuppressive molecule in mice that regulates immune cell signals. Through various seizure models, her research found that the absence of Siglec-E increases the seizure threshold and reduces severity. These findings suggest that Siglec-E might be linked to seizures.

Graduate Research Day is a tradition of the College of Graduate Health Sciences that brings together graduate students from all programs within the college to present their work and celebrate their achievements. Sponsored by the Graduate Student Executive Council, the day includes scientific talks and poster presentations leading up to the annual CGHS Awards Ceremony, where outstanding students are recognized within the college.
