Shelton Appointed Associate Dean for Student Affairs

Chasity Shelton, Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy (UTHSC COP), was recently appointed Associate Dean for Student Affairs at UTHSC COP. She graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a BS in Microbiology and received her PharmD degree from UTHSC COP. She completed residency training in Pediatric Pharmacotherapy and Academia at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and UTHSC from 2005 to 2007.  

Dr. Shelton is board-certified in Pharmacotherapy and Pediatric Pharmacy. Her career in student affairs began with her initial appointment as Assistant Dean for Student Success in 2019 at UTHSC COP.  

“Our students are extremely fortunate to have Dr. Shelton overseeing this department,” said College of Pharmacy Dean Reginald Frye. “Not only is Dr. Shelton experienced and knowledgeable, but she also has the compassion needed to serve our student population and ensure they have the support they need to become the best pharmacist in our profession.”  

Dr. Shelton was recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy in 2018 and is a 2019 graduate of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Academic Leadership Fellows Program. Dr. Shelton was inducted into the UTHSC College of Medicine’s Academy of Master Educators in 2021 and served as the Immediate Past Chair for the AACP Pediatric Pharmacy Special Interest Group cabinet. Her research interests are student and academic affairs, interprofessional education, simulation in healthcare education, and pediatric infectious disease. 

 “I am excited for the opportunity to serve as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs. In my previous role as Assistant Dean for Student Success, I worked closely with students in career exploration and preparation,” says Dr. Shelton. “Empowering students to thrive academically, socially, professionally, and personally is not just a role; it’s a commitment. As Associate Dean for Student Affairs, I am dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where every student’s journey is valued and guided with care.”
