Shelia Cooper, assistant dean for administration at the UTHSC College of Pharmacy, is retiring from her position July 1.
Cooper has served as assistant dean for five years and began working in the College of Pharmacy in 2001 as business manager for the Department of Clinical Pharmacy. She has spent 37 years at UTHSC, beginning her career here in 1984 in the Office of Business and Finance.
“I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had over the years at UTHSC and the College of Pharmacy,” Cooper said. “I’ve been able to work in several areas and continue to learn new things in my 37 years here. The work was never stale.”
She said she began working at UTHSC partly for the education benefits but stayed for the love of the institution. Cooper said she has loved working in a college atmosphere, close to students who are excited about their education.
“I really got to see how the college changes their lives,” she said. “That’s been very rewarding.”
Cooper said in retirement she will miss the problem-solving that came with her position, and most of all she will miss the people at the College of Pharmacy. She looks forward to spending more time with her husband, Dan, her daughter and son-in-law, Danielle and Devin, and her grandkids, Crawford and Ellen.
