Pharmacy alumni participate in COVID-19 symposium

More than 300 University of Tennessee alumni have participated in a symposium on COVID-19 hosted by the UTHSC College of Pharmacy and the UT Alumni Association (UTAA).

The event, titled “TODAY: Talking about the COVID-19 Vaccine” was a live webinar where alumni from across the University of Tennessee system talked with experts about the Covid-19 vaccine.

“The webinar addressed facts about vaccine safety and effectiveness, and explained the difference between the two vaccines currently approved under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), Moderna and Pfizer, and vaccines soon to be approved,” said Brian Winbigler, PharmD, MBA assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science. “We also discussed the importance of getting the vaccine and reaching all segments of our population regardless of race, ethnicity, or other socioeconomic factors and determinants of health.”

More than 250 people attended the webinar live, and about 350 people have accessed the recording. The webinar included opening remarks from UTAA Board of Governors President Emily Capadalis Love and expert opinion from Dr. Winbigler; his wife, Jennifer Winbigler, MD; and College of Pharmacy Dean Marie Chisholm-Burns, PharmD, MPH, MBA, FCCP FASHP, FAST.
