Dr. Chelsea Renfro, assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science, was named as the 2020 Distinguished Young Pharmacist by the Tennessee Pharmacists Association (TPA), in recognition of her contributions to pharmacy practice as a new practitioner.
“We are extremely proud of Dr. Renfro,” said Dr. Chris Finch, chair of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science. “Her work in the clinical simulation arena is essential to the training of future pharmacists. She is a rising star not only in Tennessee, but also on the national stage. I look forward to her continued success.”
The Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award was created in 1987 by Pharmacists Mutual Companies to encourage newer pharmacists to become involved in association activities and civic projects, and to recognize one such pharmacist in each state for individual excellence and outstanding contributions, according to the TPA website.
Dr. Renfro is also the Coordinator of Simulation-Based Education at the UTHSC College of Pharmacy. She has served as the inaugural Chair of the Pharmacy Affinity Group for the Society of Simulation in Healthcare and recently became the first pharmacy faculty member in Tennessee to receive the international Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) credential from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
“The Tennessee Pharmacists Association has played such a large role in my pharmacy career thus far, from joining as a student pharmacist all the way to my current role with UTHSC,” Dr. Renfro said. “I am thankful for the Association’s role in advancing the role of pharmacists in the state of Tennessee, and it is such an honor to be the recipient of the 2020 Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award.”
