UTHSC student organizations hosted the first “Together We NarCAN” Narcan training February 27 in partnership with the Memphis Area Prevention Coalition. The training was made possible by a grant from the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) Prescription for Service Competition sponsored by Walmart Sam’s Club.
SNPhA, American Pharmacist Association-Academy of Student Pharmacist (APhA-ASP), and the American Medical Association (AMA) chapters on campus partnered to host the event. Josh Weil, Regional Overdose Prevention Specialist, spoke on addiction and opioids along with a panel.
The $2,500 grant was awarded after four College of Pharmacy students produced a video and shared how they would use the grant money in partnership with local organizations to provide training, educational materials, and Narcan kits to help prevent opioid overdoses. This event was the first of those training events.
