On Saturday February 27, student pharmacists from across the state attended the 8th Annual Tennessee Society of Student Pharmacists (TSSP) Meeting in Nashville. The focus of this year’s meeting was the history of TSSP. The meeting commenced with a message from Dr. Don Branam, President of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association (TPA). The keynote speaker for the meeting was Dr. Brian Donahue, APhA Executive Resident. Past TPA presidents, Drs. Leslie Shepard and Mackenzie Calhoun, spoke during the meeting as well. A student panel was held with students from across the state, including fourth year student pharmacist from UT, Amanda Caveness, to discuss juggling academics and holding leadership positions in various organizations. Later, a break-out session was held to show students how to use social media to influence their profession; students made 30-second videos about current hot topics in pharmacy and posted them to Twitter with the hashtag #TSSPwinter16. Finally, third-year UT student pharmacist Alaine Knecht was transitioned from current TSSP president to past president. She will continue to serve TSSP as an advisor.
