Shaun Rowe, PharmD, BCPS, assistant professor of Clinical Pharmacy, co-authored a review article published in January’s edition of Neurocritical Care, which focused on the management of external ventricular drains (EVDs). Dr. Rowe explains the purpose of the guideline as an “outlet to provide a consensus statement that is both practical for health care providers that care for patients with acute neurological disorders and to identify areas that need further research. As it relates to the management of external ventricular drains, I feel that we have accomplished this goal.”
The article is authored by the Neurocritical care society, which initially met a few years prior to publication to discuss questions concerning the use and management of EVDs. When asked about his involvement, Dr. Rowe commented, “In 2014, I was asked to be one of the co-chairs of the committee directing the development of this guideline. I was honored to be the only pharmacist involved. It’s been a long process, but very interesting and fun.” The full article is available at
