New PharmD/MHIIM Dual Degree Offered

The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy is pleased to announce the Doctor of Pharmacy/Master of Health Informatics and Information Management (PharmD/MHIIM) dual degree. Although health information management is a diverse field in itself, the continued development and integration of technology into health systems will further expand the roles of health informatics and informatics pharmacists in health care organizations of all sizes creating a perfect opportunity for pharmacist intervention. Pharmacists in this growing field will frequently work in multi-disciplinary teams for planning, development, implementation and maintenance of new health care related technologies such as Computerized Practitioner Order Entry (COPE), Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA), clinical decision support, robotics, automated dispensing cabinets, intelligent infusion devices and telepharmacy.

In order to be eligible for consideration, the student: 1) must have either a bachelor’s degree or have completed the first year of the PharmD program; and 2) a college of pharmacy cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 upon completion of the first professional year. The PharmD/MHIIM is the third dual degree offered by the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, a welcome addition to the PharmD/PhD and PharmD/MBA dual degrees.
