Dr. Sarah Cox, University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy PGY2 Pharmacotherapy resident, was selected as one of eighty-five 2015 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Walmart Scholars. Dr. Cox is pictured here (right) with her faculty mentor, Andrea Franks, PharmD. The Walmart Scholars Program was created to strengthen the skills and commitment to academic pharmacy in those chosen. Dr. Cox and Dr. Franks received a travel scholarship to attend the AACP Annual Meeting and the AACP Teachers Seminar.
Dr. Cox said of the selection, “I am honored to be considered an AACP Walmart Scholar! Having the opportunity to attend the 2015 AACP Meeting was an excellent way to catalyze my career as a clinical pharmacist. At the conference, I was humbled to meet several leaders in the profession and enjoyed being exposed to many innovative and exciting initiatives in the profession of academic pharmacy. I would not have been afforded this opportunity without the mentorship and guidance of Dr. Andrea Franks, as well as my program director, Dr. Shaunta’ Ray! Thanks for your support!”
Dr. Cox graduated from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2014 and is now completing year two of the 24-month Pharmacotherapy residency at University of Tennessee Medical Center. Her professional areas of interest include ambulatory care, internal medicine, and infectious disease. She looks forward to pursuing a career as a clinical pharmacy specialist in ambulatory care or internal medicine after the completion of her residency.
