The Student Government Association Executive Council (SGAEC) chose UTHSC Department of Communication and Marketing’s editorial and design specialist, Jane Pate, as this year’s recipient of the Imhotep Award. The Imhotep Award is given by the student led organization to a faculty or staff member who has gone above and beyond to serve the student community.
Pictured left with Jane Pate is Dina Ali, fourth year student pharmacist and SGAEC President. Dina noted, “SGAEC chose to recognize Jane Pate for her service and dedication to the student community, as she spends her days working diligently to showcase our accomplishments. In our fast-paced, hectic and often stressful existence as students, it is sometimes easy to allow our focus on making it to graduation cloud our day-to-day victories. But this individual has made it her goal to bring the focus back to each day that builds upon another to collectively represent our time spent at UTHSC. You can find her with camera in hand at seemingly every event on campus, wanting to know who organized the event, who is benefitting and if she can get a quote to write up a story for one of the many newsletters she produces for our colleges. She creates a positive relationship with everyone she meets and her actions to regularly applaud the accomplishments of our students, no matter how small, has brought strength to our campus. The SGAEC would like to turn the tables for once and take a moment to recognize Jane Pate for her all of her work and for her admirable commitment to students.”
In response to the award, Jane commented, “As a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Communications, I am putting my skills to work for my alma mater.”
