Dr. P.S. Shantanu Rao was recently awarded the UTHSC Postdoctoral Association Summer Travel Award to attend the 3rd International Conference on HIV/AIDS, STDs & STIs.
Dr. Rao received his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Toledo. Currently, Dr. Rao is a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Santosh Kumar’s research lab in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (pictured left are Drs. Rao and Kumar). The research abstract submitted by Dr. Rao, titled “Role of cytochrome P450s in mediating the effects of alcohol on HIV pathogenesis”, has been selected for an oral presentation at the 3rd International Conference on HIV/AIDS, STDs & STIs.
Dr. Rao considers this symposium a great opportunity to share and discuss the latest and exciting research findings in the field of HIV prevention and treatment. Presenting his work at this meeting shall provide Dr. Rao the opportunity to obtain feedback from the best scientific minds in the field of HIV research. Seven postdoctoral candidates competed for this award; Dr. Rao was one of three winners.
