Drs. Rex Brown and Roland Dickerson, professors of Clinical Pharmacy, received the designation of Fellow of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (FASPEN) this year. ASPEN awards Fellowship status annually to those members who have exhibited exceptional achievement in practice or research and service to the organization, with the first class selected in 2012. This honor recognizes individuals who have made substantial contributions to ASPEN and the field of Clinical Nutrition. Criteria for consideration of Fellowship status include current membership of ASPEN with active membership at least ten years in duration; involvement in clinical nutrition for at least ten years; national or international reputation in clinical nutrition and/or a sustained record of substantial service to ASPEN; consistent commitment to excellence in the field of Nutrition Support as a practitioner, scientist, educator, advocate, or administrator; and contribution to the body of knowledge of nutrition.

When asked to reflect on their receipt of this prestigious designation, both Drs. Brown and Dickerson expressed being honored and humbled. Dr. Brown replied, “ASPEN is truly an interprofessional organization that provides an excellent forum for physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and dietitians to work together. The Fellowship Program is fairly new, so it is exciting to be among those that are recognized.” Dr. Dickerson described this award as a huge highlight in his career, stating, “It is particularly special to share the fellow class of 2015 honor with my long-term friend, colleague, and UTCOP faculty member Dr. Rex Brown.” He also recognized his support system, explaining that “this award would not have been possible without the support of and opportunities provided by UTCOP and Regional One Health for the past 23 years.”
