Jacki Deiley, PharmD, the current community pharmacy resident at Duren’s Pharmacy in Waynesboro was awarded an American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation Incentive Grant for her research project. This is $1000 grant will support the development of a Transitions of Care program with the county hospital in Wayne County. Dr. Deiley’s preceptor, Macon Carroll, PharmD (’12), also received an APhA Foundation Incentive grant, and will be doing research with the new pneumococcal vaccine recommendations.
Belew Drugs, a locally owned and family run community pharmacy in Knoxville, gained access to the East Tennessee Health Information Network (etHIN). This virtual health record pulls data from UT Medical Center, all Covenant facilities, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, local prescribers’ offices, and LabCorp. With this access, Belew will be able to see what is happening when their patients are hospitalized and access their records as soon as they are posted. Samantha Boldin, PharmD (’14), a community pharmacy practice resident at Belew Drugs will be using reports posted in etHIN to complete medication reconciliation for patients after hospital discharge at the community pharmacy, performing medication therapy management (MTM) services, and improving continuity of patient care. Dr. Boldin said, “We are very excited about this, as we are the first pharmacy to have access to etHIN!”
Donna Randolph, PharmD, was placed at Reeves-Sain in Murfreesboro through the University of Tennessee and its Community Pharmacy Residency Program where she is currently working on a research project to boost awareness and vaccination rates of the HPV vaccine.
