Michael L. Christensen, PharmD, BCNSP, FPPAG was recently appointed to a three year term on the Board of Pharmacy Specialists (BPS) Specialty Council on Nutrition Support Pharmacy. Nutrition support pharmacy addresses the care of patients who receive specialized nutrition support, including parenteral and enteral nutrition. The nutrition support pharmacist promotes maintenance and/or restoration of optimal nutritional status, designing and modifying treatment according to the needs of the patient. The nutrition support pharmacist has responsibility for direct patient care and often functions as a member of a multidisciplinary nutrition support team. Dr. Christensen previously served two terms on the Nutrition Specialty Council from 2003 to 2008. Since 1990, Dr. Christensen has been a member of the Parenteral Nutrition Service at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and is currently professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Pediatrics.
