William E. Evans, PharmD, director and CEO of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital since 2004 and member of the UT College of Pharmacy Classes of 1973 and 1974, received the 2014 Rho Chi Lecture Award this year at the 90th Annual Meeting of the Rho Chi Society. The award is among the society’s highest distinctions, and recognizes “outstanding achievement by distinguished scholars from the fields of the arts, letters, or sciences who have made significant contributions to the health professions.” The award was first given in 1965, and previous recipients include Joseph DiPiro, Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, and Charles D. Hepler. Dr. Evans was recognized for his extensive research on pharmacogenomics of anti-cancer agents, most notably those used to treat childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia. He adds this honor to an extensive list of awards, including the 2009 American Society of Clinical Oncology Pediatric Cancer Award, the 2012 Remington Medal from APhA, and the 2013 Hunter Award from American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
