Each year The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, in association with the Tennessee Pharmacists Association and the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy, presents a Pharmacy Update Continuing Education (CE) Seminar. The 2013 Pharmacy Update CE, held February through April, was attended by over 1600 participants across the state of Tennessee. The update provided 15 hours of live CE credit and was offered at eight different sites: Chattanooga, Cookeville, Franklin, Jackson, Johnson City, Knoxville, Memphis and Murfreesboro.
As expected, the majority of those who attending the updates were pharmacists; however, 86 pharmacy technicians, 2 students, 21 other healthcare professionals and 16 non-healthcare professionals also participated. Approximately 36% of those in attendance primarily practice in chain retail, 25% in independent retail and 18% in hospital pharmacy. In addition, 5% of participants were inactive or retired and 16% practiced in sites other than those listed on the survey.
This 2014 series of seminars is currently underway, with hopes of reaching even more alumni. The Memphis Update Seminar was held on March 2, 2014 at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. Attendees at this session were fortunate enough to hear presentations from both Dr. Glen Farr, associate dean for Continuing Education, and Dr. Baeteena Black, executive director of the Tennessee Pharmacist’s Association.
